DroneUp, a leading autonomous drone delivery provider, has partnered with Wonder Robotics, an Israeli eVTOL and autonomous drone solutions startup, to improve its level of autonomy and safety. The two companies have successfully completed an initial operational assessment on DroneUp’s drone platform using Wonder Robotics’ proprietary “WonderLand” solution.
The WonderLand technology includes vertical awareness and robust precision landing, allowing drones to operate at scale while beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS) of an operator or visual observer. In urban settings, obstacle avoidance systems are included so that drones can navigate common environments like trees, buildings, wires, and more to deliver packages safely and quickly.
For the evaluation process, Wonder Robotics installed its technology on DroneUp drones to enable intelligent precision autonomous landing, precise winch delivery and advanced contingency planning. This technology will allow a single flight engineer to safely and autonomously oversee multiple drone deliveries simultaneously – a crucial aspect for scaling the DroneUp operation.
“Our technology is a BVLOS operation-at-scale enabler for scalable drone services that allows the service provider or mission manager to safely operate multiple drones per site,” said Idan Shimon, Co-Founder and CEO of Wonder Robotics. “Wonder Robotics’ goal is to provide reliable technology that will make drone services safe and affordable and help with future regulatory standards for scalable and secure drone delivery.”
DroneUp CTO John Vernon emphasized their commitment to safe operations in this partnership with Wonder Robotics. He stated: “Commitment to safe operation is our top priority, and exploring cutting-edge technology like Wonderland is very important to staying on that course. Implementing this into our technology stack not only improves individual deliveries but also gives us a clearer path to scale our operation as drone delivery becomes more popular each year.”
