Quantum Systems certified as Bundeswehr training centre for unmanned aerial systems

Quantum Systems, a leading German innovator in drone technology, has achieved certification as a training facility for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) by the German Armed Forces Aviation Office (LufABw). This milestone, achieved on 10 December 2024, positions Quantum Systems as a key partner for the Bundeswehr in training personnel to operate advanced drone systems.

The certification allows Quantum Systems to provide training on UAS from its Family of Systems to members of the German Armed Forces. This rare endorsement of a civilian company for military training highlights the firm’s expertise and introduces new standards in drone pilot education, including simulator-based training and an innovative train-the-trainer programme.

The training programme has a two-stage structure. The first stage focuses on teaching individuals with no prior experience to become proficient drone pilots. The second stage involves training experienced pilots as instructors to support the rapid scaling of the Bundeswehr’s drone capabilities. This marks a new approach for the LufABw, enhancing the efficiency of UAS training.

Simulator-based training plays a pivotal role in the programme, currently constituting 20% of the instruction and potentially increasing to 80% in the future. Quantum Systems’ use of simulators, supported by its proprietary Learning Management System (LMS), enables trainees to complete part of their education remotely, reducing practical training time to just ten working days. To ensure proficiency and keep pace with technological advancements, participants must attend annual refresher courses.

Sven Kruck, Managing Director of Quantum Systems, stated: “Together with the Bundeswehr Aviation Office, Quantum Systems is setting new standards in the training of drone pilots and instructors. Our two-stage certification approach and the additional support of simulator technology and distance learning allow us to train the personnel required to operate unmanned aerial vehicles for the Bundeswehr quickly and in a resource-efficient manner. We are proud to be the pioneer for the use of drones in the Bundeswehr.”
